April 29, 2011 FCS Middle School Track Meet Results Congratulations to our student athletes who participated in the FCS middle school track meet held on Saturday, April 16.  The Ridgeview girls placed 4th overall.  Way to go girls, and thanks to Coach Binnion and Coach Dixon! Let’s Move!  Flash Workout On Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at 1:42pm Eastern Time, middle schools across the country will participate in the “Let’s Move! Flash Workout”.  This historic event will underscore the importance of physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle for children.  The RCS PE Dept. has signed up to this event in support of First Lady Michelle Obama’s initiative aimed at curbing childhood obesity.  Our students enrolled in PE this quarter are being taught the choreography during their scheduled physical education classes.  We have also invited faculty and other students to participate during intramurals after school in order to learn the dance and be able to participate together on May 3.  Click here for a link to the workout!  You may also click here for Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" Campaign. February 25, 2011 RCS World Cup Soccer Tournament Attention all 7th and 8th grade boys and girls soccer players, our First Annual World Soccer Tournament will start on Monday, March 7th.  See Mr. Pirozzi in room 821 for information and to register. January 28, 2011 7th Grade Basketball Team, GHA Tournament Champions.   January 21, 2011 PE Students to Participate in Skating Program Beginning on February 8, our PE classes will participate in a skating program with the help of “Skate Time”.  Originally scheduled for the week of January 24, this activity was postponed due to last week’s weather.  Permission slips and additional information were sent home with our PE students.  This is a great opportunity for our students to learn basic skating skills and safety tips on being a smart skater. January 7, 2011 Baseball Tryouts Baseball tryouts for 6th/7th/8th grade boys will begin the week of 1/10.  Physicals are due to Coach Dixon by 1/11…no exceptions.  Physicals must be on the Ridgeview forms that are located under “Forms” on our website. October 12, 2010 Softball Playoffs In the Softball Playoffs, Epstein edged Galloway in the Semi’s 6-5 (Great Game).  Ridgeview beat Davis in a semi final game that had to be extended to the next day because of loss of Daylight.In the finals it was all Ridgeview, winning 9-4 in 6 innings.Congrats to all the teams. October 8, 2010 RCS Softball Team is MAAC iddle School 2010 Champions! The Lady Panther Softball team won the MAAC Championship for the second year in a row by defeating Esptein 9-4 on Wednesday Night!!!!  Bryanna Clark, Kimberly Dean, Jordan Dean, Destiny Fitch, Kiara Willis, Kiersten Franklin, Helen Derrick, Anna Hayden, Amira James, Barbara Jean Shirley, Kelsey Blevins, Bria Durr, Isabel Dever, and Caroline Sweetin worked very hard all season and represented RCS very well by showing incredible sportsmanship!  Thank you to Coach Dixon and Ms. Cox for coming to the game to support our team!!!!  Congratulations to Coach Stewart who coached the team! September 17, 2010 Panther Softball Team defeats AIGS The Panther softball team soundly defeated the Atlanta Girls’ School Hurricanes on Wednesday 13-1.  The offensive highlight of the game was Barbara Jean Shirley's Grand Slam Homerun and the defensive highlight goes to Caroline Sweetin for an AMAZING catch in center field!  See them in action Friday, Sept. 17 at 4:30 at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian! Congratulations to the RCS travel soccer team for its strong victory over Elkins Pointe, 1-0.  The goal was scored by 8th grader, Oscar Quiones but it was a great overall team effort.  The team travel Friday, Sept. 17, to play Sandy Springs Middle. On Tuesday of this week, the Lady Panthers of the 8th grade volleyball team defeated Davis middle school in a convincing win of 2 games to zero. Please congratulate the girls when you see them in the halls.  Today (Fri), we play St. Martin at home.  Come out and support us! The Ridgeview Cross Country team has started their season on a strong note.  In our first practice meet 9/8 we had 22 girls compete at Chastain Park.  Our top 5 were Anna Walker, Maggie Duncan, Maia Christie, Shelby Starr and McKenzie Brennan.  We had 19 boys run and our top 5 were Adil Rarbaje, Nick Fischel, Alex Bergeron, Zach Katz and Evan Soggs.  The Ridgeview Cross Country team had their second race on 9/14 at Brookhaven Park.  In the emerging elite race John Silverstar and Willie Herrigel lead the way by finishing 1st and 2nd overall!  Other scoring runners were William White, Jack Callahan and Jeremy Colton.  In the girls emerging elite race Jamison Cooper scored a top 10 finish and was followed by Marina Saker, Natalie Peek, Kenzie Fisher and Kaleigh Whitfield.  The girls elite race was next and Skylar Gardner lead the team in 21st place overall.  She was followed by Mckenzie Brennan, Danielle Jenkins, Grace Geyer and Sydney Johnson.  In the boys elite race 6th grader Alex Bergeron scored an impressive 10th place overall to lead the Panthers and was followed by Evan Soggs, Nick Fischel, Adil Rarbaje and Duncan Jackson who all finished in the top 20.  Our next meet is Tuesday at Brookhaven Park. September 1, 2010 Soccer Tryouts Tuesday, Sept. 7th, 8th, 9th and 13th  from 3:40 to 4:40pm--7th and 8th graders may try out.  Cross Country practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3:40 to 4:40pm.  First meet is September 7th.  Parent Meeting Thursday, Sept. 2 at 4:30.  See Coach Strickland if you have questions. August 17, 2010 7th & 8th graders can try-out for any sport at Ridgeview.  6th graders can not try-out for Extramural team sports, however they may participate in the Intramural program.  The Intramural program runs Monday-Thursday from 3:40-4:45.  The Intramural program offers a variety of activities throughout the year.  To be involved, each student must fill out the Intramural registration form (click here for form) and turn it in to one of the PE teachers.  Each student must have insurance to participate in this program.  Students are also required to “dress out” (does not have to be the PE uniform…t-shirt, athletic shorts, athletic shoes, etc.) to participate in any of our sports programs at Ridgeview Charter School.  6th graders can only try-out for the following foundation sports: Girls Cross country (6th, 7th, & 8th combined), Volleyball (6th/7thgrade team & 8th grade team) or Softball (6th, 7th, & 8th combined)             & Basketball (6th/7th grade team).  Girls can not try-out for Volleyball & Softball because their seasons overlap.
